Hohenstein Lodge
The nearest lodge to the SPITZKOPPE!
The BULL'S PARTY and PHILLIP'S CAVE are on the neighbouring farm.
The Hohenstein Lodge is located on the south-western edge of the Erongo Mountains at the foot of the huge Hohenstein Massif (mountain range), about 25 km north of Usakos on the road D 1935. It is the closest Lodge to the famous Spitzkoppe mountains..All the bungalows as well as the restaurant at Hohenstein share the same breathtaking views. You will see Spitzkoppe at some distance to the left. Straight ahead, you will see the 1,469 meter tall Mount Kainachab and Hohenstein (2,319 meter)to its right. Both are situated across a wide valley dotted with ancient Camel thorn trees. In the evenings, Hohenstein is aglow in the warm red light of the beautiful sunsets.

If the lengths of your stay permits, you can take day trips to Spitzkoppe and Brandberg, engage in game or bird-watching, or go on hiking trips. The view from the peak of Kainachab is indescribable - you simply have to experience it yourself. In addition, we can organize other mountain tours as well as tours through the Boulder Forest for those interested in the mining of gemstones.
Another unforgettable experience is having dinner on our spacious patio while watching a variety of wild life pass by on their way to the watering hole. Throughout the day, the watering hole attracts numerous birds. Make sure not to forget your binoculars.
We are active members of the Erongo Mountain Nature Conservancy (EMNC) which works to protect the wealth of endemic and rare wildlife species and the archaeological sites of the Erongo Mountain. The creation of job opportunities in the area of tourism is crucial for our locals as a means to support themselves and their families and it is only in this context that continued nature conservation is possible. At the same time, these projects help in reducing the rural exodus into the cities.
The area of the Hohenstein Lodge is without doubt one of the most impressive landscapes of the country. The lodge is named after the highest mountain of the Erongo mountain chain, the Hohenstein and is situated at the foot of this mountain. The former farm borders on the communal area of the Damara land. Right from the start, the Damara population was involved in the project and individuals from the immediate surroundings have built the lodge under the direction of craftsmen. Our staff is very proud of what has been accomplished and shares their enthusiasm with visitors to the lodge.
